European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is looking for a Chief Financial Officer (French-speaking)

ROLE SUMMARY

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is looking for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is a Swiss-law, non-profit association serving public service media through a member-led governance model.

Reporting to the Director General, the CFO is responsible for the Finance & Administration of the EBU. The successful candidate will lead financial stewardship, planning, control, and decision support across EBU’s multi-entity footprint, and partner with senior leaders on transformation priorities.

The role balances governance-grade financial integrity with business partnering across major value pools (Sport, News, Live Events) and shared services, including treasury/risk, procurement discipline, and real estate value stewardship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting and performance reporting; deliver decision-ready insights to leadership and governance bodies.
  • Ensure robust financial controls, audit coordination and compliant multi-entity reporting across EBU’s footprint.
  • Own treasury activities including liquidity planning, investment income oversight, and management of material FX and credit exposures.
  • Strengthen capital allocation and investment governance for major platform and transformation initiatives (e.g., News and Live Events technology programs).
  • Partner with business leaders to improve unit economics and reduce value leakage in significant commercial/technology/vendor deals (data/IP/TCO discipline).
  • Advance procurement and supplier relationship management practices to deliver savings and reduce rework/friction.
  • Provide stewardship for real estate and facilities value plans, including scenario-based decision support (e.g., leasing strategy and workspace consolidation).
  • Support enterprise risk framing and transparent escalation (“no surprises”) in a member-led governance environment.
  • Lead, coach and develop a lean finance organization and ensure scalable processes across order-to-cash, procure-to-pay and record-to-report.
  • Build strong relationships with Members and relevant external stakeholders (auditors, advisors, financial institutions).

Required experience & qualifications

  • 20 years of senior finance leadership experience covering FP&A, controllership, audit, controls and multi-entity reporting.
  • Strong treasury/risk capability, including FX exposure management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead procurement governance and deliver measurable savings.
  • Experience governing complex vendor/technology programs with disciplined investment logic (TCO/stage-gates).
  • Ability to operate effectively in a governance-rich, multi-stakeholder environment (General Assembly/Executive Board).

Key relationships

  • EBU Director General; Executive Board bodies including Finance Group and Audit Committee.
  • EBU Senior Leadership team.
  • External auditors/advisors; banks/insurers; key partners and suppliers.

What success looks like

  • Forecasting and governance materials are trusted, timely, and decision-ready.
  • Capital allocation decisions on platform initiatives are transparent, staged, and value-based.
  • Treasury/FX risks are actively managed and well communicated; reserves are stewarded with discipline.
  • Procurement and deal governance reduce value leakage and avoid late-stage rework.
  • Real estate plans are executed with clear scenarios and downside protection.
  • The finance team operates as a pragmatic business partner while maintaining strong controls.

Location / travel / language notes

  • Location: Role preferably Geneva-based given HQ.
  • Travel: 10-15%.
  • Languages: English and French a must.
