ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT

The Radiocommunication Bureau (BR) is responsible for the application of the Radio Regulations and for technical and administrative support of ITU World and Regional Radiocommunication Conferences, Radiocommunication Assemblies and Study Groups. The Bureau also carries out the international regulatory processes for registration of frequency assignments and satellite orbits and assists administrations in their coordination and implementation of frequency spectrum and orbit requirements as well as in resolving cases of harmful interference. It provides the specialised technical secretariat for the work of the Radiocommunication Study Groups and the Radiocommunication Assembly in the development of recommendations for spectrum utilisation and radio system characteristics. The BR is organised into four Departments: Space Services Department, Terrestrial Services Department, Informatics, Administration and Publications Department and the Study Groups Department.

The Informatics, Administration and Publications Department (IAP) comprises of fourDivisions: Space Applications Software (SAS), Terrestrial Applications Software (TAS), Common Software Platform Division (CSP) and Business Operations and Planning Division (BOP). The Department is responsible for the development and maintenance of software and related tools used by the BR as well as software adapted for national frequency management units, providing the necessary user support for the areas concerned. It carries out studies related to policies for the technologies to be used for the information and computational systems within the BR and with administrations in the fields of management of the radio frequency spectrum and the various satellite orbits. The Department is responsible for managing all aspects of the BR's operations, including the development of BR operational plans, organizational support of ITU-R conferences and meetings, BR project management processes and procedures, BR text editing and publications, as well as promotion and membership. The Department is also responsible for human resources management and planning for the BR.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

Under the supervision of the Technical Designer, the intern will:

Participate in the creation and modification of graphics, including illustrations, logos, layouts and photos, in accordance with Radiocommunications Bureau (BR) editorial and visual standards.
Contribute to the preparation of other drawings and visual materials as requested by the BR.
Assist in reviewing figures and graphics and in identifying editorial and visual corrections under the guidance of the Technical Designer.
Assist in preparing curves, charts and graphs from tables, mathematical formulae and databases, ensuring accuracy and clarity of presentation.
Contribute to the editorial coherence of visual and graphical materials in relation to BR technical content.

COMPETENCIES

Good knowledge of computer software and particularly drawing software and graphic design tools (Corel Draw, Adobe Creative Suite).

Experience in technical drawing and in the preparation of graphs from data or mathematical formulae, as well as in computer-aided drawing and desktop publishing.

Willingness to learn and adapt to the ITU-R Editorial Style Guide, technical documents and the Radio Regulations (RR).

QUALIFICATION REQUIRED

Education:

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Visual Design, Graphic Design, Interaction Design, or a related field.

Work experience:

No work experience is required.

Languages:

English at advanced level.

Working knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) would be an advantage.

TRAINING AND LEARNING ELEMENTS

The intern will acquire:

Practical knowledge and hands-on experience in the international radio regulations context.
Advanced technical and creative skills in graphic design will be developed, including the creation and modification of illustrations, layouts, and other visual materials, while ensuring consistency and accuracy in line with established editorial standards.
Further experience will be gained in data visualization and technical production, including the preparation of graphs and curves from data and mathematical formulae, supporting the clear presentation of complex information.

The internship will also provide exposure to real-world projects within an international environment, fostering collaboration with experienced professionals and contributing to professional growth and portfolio development.

To be eligible for an internship at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), candidates must:

Be under 30 years of age (Exceptions may be considered for candidates pursuing a Ph.D.).
Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate programme, or be a recent graduate(within six months prior to the start of the internship).
Be a citizen of a Member State of ITU.
