Achieving gender balance is a high priority for ITU.\n\n**Unpaid Internship - Member Engagement Intern** \n\nORGANIZATIONAL UNIT\n\nThe General Secretariat directs administrative, human and financial resources and activities of the Union, including the implementation of the provisions of the administrative regulations on operational questions, the dissemination of information on telecommunication\u002FICT matters for operational and other purposes, and the provision of legal advice to the whole of the Union. The General Secretariat coordinates the implementation of the Strategic Plan, monitors the telecommunication\u002FICT environment and recommends as needed action relating to the Union’s future policies and strategy. The General Secretariat ensures inter-sectoral coordination and cooperation to advance a whole of ITU approach (One-ITU) in headquarters and the field. The General Secretariat provides logistical and information technology support to the Union’s activities including conferences and global forums; the coordination of the work of the Union with the United Nations system, and other international organizations; and the engagement of the Member States, Sector Members, and Academia. The General Secretariat manages corporate governance, and strategic communications and relations with the media, different stakeholder groups as well as the general public. \n\nWithin the General Secretariat, the Strategic Planning and Membership Department (SPM) advises the Secretary-General on strategic challenges and their implications for the Union in the fast evolving telecommunications\u002FICT environment; develops forward-looking strategic proposals to the ITU management team with a view to ensuring that the organization meets the objectives assigned by the membership; plans and coordinates the corporative and strategic activities with a view to ensuring their accordance with membership objectives; organizes and provides secretariat services to the Plenipotentiary Conference, Council, and other meetings in the general secretariat in order to achieve a high level of involvement from Member States and Sector Members, develops and maintains sound relations with Member States, Sector Members and other entities, the UN and other international organizations. The Department is also responsible for providing expert advice on communication and promotion strategies and for developing and implementing the Union's corporate communication plan in cooperation with the three Sectors with a view to promoting ITU leadership in the field of telecommunications and ICT.\n\n## TERMS OF REFERENCE\n\nAs the United Nations specialized agency for digital technologies, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) brings together a diverse membership composed of 194 Member States, national regulators, and more than 1,000 companies, universities, and international and regional organizations, providing a unique multi-stakeholder platform to address major ICT issues. \n\nWithin ITU’s General Secretariat, the Marketing and Partner Relations Division (MPR) manages ITU’s relationships with industry members, academia, and international and regional organizations. The Division works to strengthen engagement, expand membership, and support collaboration across different stakeholder groups.\n\nUnder the supervision of the Membership Officer, the Member Engagement Intern will support activities aimed at enhancing member engagement and expanding ITU’s partner base. These activities may include, but are not limited to:\n\n- Conduct research and analysis on prospective members and partners.\n- Support the development of the resource mobilization (RM) strategy and identify best practices across UN agencies\n- Prepare briefings and summaries for senior management and internal use.\n- Develop presentations and materials to support outreach and engagement activities.\n- Assist with initiatives and activities designed to strengthen engagement with existing and prospective members.\n- Perform other tasks as required in support of the team’s objectives.\n\nThe internship will provide the intern with understanding of the ICT ecosystem, exposure to digital-development initiatives, and insight into the functioning of ITU’s structure, membership models, and partnership mechanisms.
