Principles for Peace Foundation is looking for an AI Researcher and Data Scientist

CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST – EXPERT ROSTER

Role: AI Researcher and Data Scientist

Location: Flexible / As required by project activities

Contract Type: Framework Agreement - Service contract

Reporting line: Executive Director

1. BACKGROUND

The Principles for Peace Foundation (P4P) is an independent Geneva-based organisation that seeks to reset how peace is built, measured and supported. Guided by the Principles for Peace, P4P works along two strategic pillars.

The first pillar focuses on country accompaniment. P4P supports governments, national actors and coalitions to design and implement legitimate and inclusive peace arrangements and reconciliation processes.

The second pillar focuses on global architecture and tools. P4P develops and deploys methodologies, including peace games simulations, incubation spaces, and the Peace Navigator, an AI powered measurement platform, and uses them to inform policy, decision making and practice.

P4P operates as a nimble, high performing team that works in a consulting style talent pool. Staff are organised into task teams under the leadership of thematic leads and work across assignments rather than in fixed silos.

2. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

P4P invites Expressions of Interest from qualified individuals or organizations to provide AI research and development support on a flexible, as-needed basis under a framework agreement.

The selected AI researcher and Data Scientist will support the design, development, testing, and refinement of AI-powered tools developed by P4P, including the Peace Navigator and AI-enabled peace game simulations. The role will involve working closely with P4P teams and partners to support responsible AI development, contribute to research and prototyping, and help integrate AI functionalities into P4P's country-level accompaniment, mediation support, advisory work, and peace gaming initiatives.

3. KEY RESPONSABILITIES

1. AI Tool Maintenance and Development

  • Support the maintenance, iteration, and further development of the Peace Navigator, including testing, debugging, and continuous improvement of existing AI functionalities.
  • Contribute to the technical development of other AI-powered tools, including AI-enabled peace game simulations and experimental prototypes.
  • Support ongoing, ad hoc AI development needs across P4P projects, responding flexibly to emerging technical requirements.

2. Research and Innovation

  • Conduct applied research to inform the design and improvement of AI-powered peacebuilding tools, including reviewing relevant methodologies, models, and use cases.
  • Explore and propose innovative AI applications relevant to peacebuilding, mediation, and advisory work, translating research insights into practical tool development.
  • Support experimentation, prototyping, and learning around new AI features and concepts, including assessing feasibility, limitations, and potential risks.

3. Technical Advisory and Quality Assurance

  • Provide technical input and feedback on communication materials related to AI tools (e.g. briefs, presentations, platform content), ensuring technical accuracy and accessibility for non-technical audiences.
  • Advise P4P teams on technical design choices, trade-offs, and limitations of AI-powered analysis.
  • Support documentation of AI tools, workflows, and assumptions to strengthen transparency and internal understanding.

4. Other, Miscellaneous Tasks

  • Provide Miscellaneous tasks that may reasonably emerge during the assignment and are related to the scope of the project.

4. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

P4P is seeking an organization or individuals with the following profile:

  • Advanced degree in AI, Data Science, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong foundation in machine learning, AI systems design, and data engineering, with experience bridging research and engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience in AI research and applied development, including building, deploying, and maintaining AI-powered tools or platforms.
  • Experience with APIs, data pipelines, and cloud-based AI infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with responsible AI practices, including model evaluation, bias mitigation, and ethical considerations.
  • Experience communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Prior experience applying AI in social impact, humanitarian, or peacebuilding contexts is an asset.
  • Languages - Fluency in English is required.
  • Discretion - High level of discretion, integrity, and ability to handle confidential information.

5. HOW TO APPLY

Interested organisations are invited to submit an Expression of Interest to [email protected] by 19 March 2026, including:

    1. A short organisational profile highlighting relevant experience;
    1. A brief description of experience with software development and web design
