Salary: Annual gross between CHF 86,330 and CHF 107,913, before tax and subject to social security and pension deductions

Background

The Governance Unit supports IUCN's Council, Bureau, Standing Committees, and President in fulfilling statutory functions. The Officer role provides professional coordination, drafting, and administrative support for governance processes, with emphasis on documentation, meeting coordination, record-keeping, and decision tracking. The position demands accuracy, discretion, service orientation and the ability to work under tight deadlines.

Key Duties

  • Meeting preparation and delivery — Prepare agendas, draft decisions, and related materials; quality-control documentation; support online, hybrid, and in-person meetings.
  • Records and follow-up — Draft minutes and outcome documents; maintain decision registers and implementation trackers; follow up with units on deadlines.
  • Standing Committee support — Coordinate calendars, workplans, and documentation for committees and subsidiary bodies; prepare briefing notes and research.
  • Leadership support — Assist with briefing materials, speaking notes, and correspondence for the President and Council leadership.
  • Administrative and budget support — Handle document circulation, filing, meeting logistics, and budget tracking; improve templates and workflows.
  • Other duties consistent with the role and grade.

Requirements

Education: Master's degree in international relations, public administration, law, political science, or a related field (required).

Experience:

  • Minimum two years in governance support, board secretariat work, or coordination in an international or public institution.
  • Experience preparing meeting documentation and drafting minutes/decisions (required).
  • Experience with senior leadership or governing bodies (highly desirable).
  • Exposure to multilingual/multicultural environments (asset).

Skills:

  • Strong drafting, analytical and organisational skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple workflows under tight deadlines.
  • Discretion and good judgement on confidential matters.
  • Strong interpersonal and service orientation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, collaboration tools, and virtual meeting platforms.

Languages: Excellent written and spoken English (required); French and/or Spanish (advantageous).
