The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action.
The Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) is a global community of policy, business, and finance professionals and organisations committed to collaboratively generating, managing, and sharing knowledge on the transition to an inclusive green economy. The GGKP is led by UNEP, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the World Bank.
The mission of GGKP is to empower government decision makers, companies and financial institutions with evidence-based knowledge that can best support them to contribute effectively to the green economy transition. The GGKP provides its best practice knowledge management services through its three core platforms, the Green Policy Platform, the Green Industry Platform, and the Green Finance Platform.
GGKP is executing the Global environment Facility (GEF) funded global Coordination, Communication, and Knowledge Management (CCKM) project under the “Implementing Sustainable Low and Non-Chemical Development in Small Island Developing States” (ISLANDS) Programme, and the global child project of Financing Agrochemical Reduction and Management (FARM) programme.
ISLANDS is a five-year programme composed of six child projects and working in 33 Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Atlantic, Caribbean, Indian Ocean and Pacific regions to improve chemicals and waste management. There it aims to prevent the build-up of materials and chemicals in the environment that contain harmful chemicals, and to manage and dispose of existing harmful chemicals and materials. The programme addresses eight key thematic areas, namely end-of-life vehicles (ELV), e-waste, gender, highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs), mercury, plastics, toxic chemicals, and used oil.
FARM aims to strengthen the sound management of agricultural chemicals and their waste, through better control, and reduction and / or elimination. To achieve this aim, the overall objective of the programme is to generate a framework of knowledge and tools for financing sustainable agriculture practices, and that will address incentivizing financing through adjustments to key policies, regulations, standards, norms, and market innovations. The FARM programme is being implemented by UNEP with GGKP as an executing agency for the Global Child Project. There are seven Child Projects within the programme in three regions, Africa, Asia Pacific and Latin America, for which the executing agencies are UNEP/Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations Development Programmed (UNDP) and UNIDO.
The role of the two Global Child Projects is to coordinate the efforts of the child projects, promote knowledge generation and sharing, and lead engagement with international stakeholders.
A consultant is sought to support the GGKP in the execution of the ISLANDS CCKM project and FARM global Child project, and specifically to support communications, advocacy and outreach activities, stakeholder engagement, maintain digital channels related to ISLANDS and FARM (websites and social media) and produce content for these channels. This work will also include related support to core GGKP activities.
The specific tasks related to this assignment will be under the supervision of the GGKP ISLANDS and FARM Communications Specialist, and ISLANDS and FARM Project Managers, and in coordination with the GGKP communications team, and will include:
