[{"data":1,"prerenderedAt":135},["ShallowReactive",2],{"job-geneva-world-meteorological-organization-legal-officer-2026-02":3},{"id":4,"title":5,"employer":6,"created_at":7,"organisationid":8,"expiry":9,"languagesrequired":10,"salarymonthlymin":8,"salarymonthlymax":8,"link":11,"description":12,"employmentType":13,"job_area":15,"employer_domain":17,"featured":18,"paid":18,"open":18,"organisation":19,"featuredJobs":20,"normalPosts":21,"organisationsPosts":96,"openAlternatives":97},"geneva-world-meteorological-organization-legal-officer-2026-02","Legal Officer","World Meteorological Organization",["Date","2026-02-18T07:43:12.636Z"],"","2026-02-19 00:00",[],"https:\u002F\u002Ferecruit.wmo.int\u002Fpublic\u002Fhrd-cl-vac-view.asp?jobinfo_uid_c=39695&vaclng=en","## Duties and Responsibilities\n\nUnder the direct supervision of the Legal Counsel, the Legal Officer will be responsible for the following duties:\n\n- Conduct extensive legal research and analysis on a broad range of issues, including constitutional, international, public, private, and administrative law, and prepare studies, briefs, reports and correspondence.\n- Assisting Legal Counsel in interpreting and applying constitutive, legislative, and other instruments governing WMO's activities and operations.\n- Review legal documents, instruments, and other materials; identify important issues, similarities, and inconsistencies.\n- Draft background papers, studies, and reports.\n- Prepare legal opinions and advice on international public and private law issues, including the WMO Convention, Congress resolutions, privileges and immunities, procedural issues during meetings, and constitutional and administrative law.\n- Supporting Legal Counsel in the preparation of agreements and contracts with governments, NGOs and other public and private entities, as well as claims and disputes.\n- Assisting Legal Counsel in representing the Organization before arbitral and other tribunals or administrative proceedings, including disciplinary cases.\n- Assisting Legal Counsel in providing legal advice on human resources matters and review administrative decisions.\n- Support diplomatic conferences, commissions, committees, task forces, and other bodies, including preparation of background materials and summaries of issues.\n- Contribute to data collection and analysis, identify trends or patterns, and provide draft insights through graphs, charts, tables, and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning and decision-making.\n- Perform other duties as assigned.\n\n## Qualifications\n\n### Education\n\nMaster's degree or equivalent in a relevant field of law (eg. International law, Public International Law, Commercial Law). A first-level university degree or equivalent in combination with two years of additional directly relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the master's degree.\n\n### Experience\n\n- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible legal practice, including legal analysis, research, and drafting.\n- Demonstrated expertise in administrative law and contract law is required.\n- Experience providing legal advice within an international organization or similar institutional setting as well as familiarity with the United Nations Internal Justice System or comparable administrative employment tribunals is desirable.\n\n### Other requirements\n\nThe Legal Officer must demonstrate individual-level proficiency in the following competencies:\n\n- Communication & Influence\n- Collaboration & Team Dynamics\n- Inclusive Mindset & Cultural Awareness\n- Decision Making & Problem Solving\n- Integrity & Accountability\n- Innovation & Digital Agility\n- Stakeholder Understanding & Engagement\n\n### Languages\n\nExcellent knowledge of English (both oral and written).
